TERRAM PW1 - trackbed separator,
TERRAM PW2 - trackbed robust separator,
TERRAM PW4-LA - trackbed separator/reinforcement

TERRAM geosynthetic Rail solutions are suitable where possible loss of rail track alignment, caused by sub-grade erosion, would otherwise lead to costly maintenance and the complications caused by temporarily close the track for its renewal.

25 years ago, TERRAM PW1 geotextile was developed to maintain separation between the adjacent sand/ballast layers as a replacement to the traditional sub-ballast and/or a graded-sand layers, that were used in an attempt to restrict the upward movement of fine sub-grade particles.

Since then further developments of geosynthetics for permanent way applications have been made to deal with PW related issues:

TERRAM PW2 geocomposite - a robust separator/filter incorporating a stiff net between two TERRAM textile filter layers.

TERRAM PW4-LA geocomposite -  a development incorporating TERRAM 4000 and Tensar SS40LA geogrid, which improves track life and performance by stiffening ballast laid over weak ground. The advantage of TERRAM PW4-LA is the speed at which a geotextile filter and grid reinforcement can be laid in a single pass with the beneficial effect on construction costs.

The choice of TERRAM PW grade will depend on the application, the sub-grade type & its strength.
