Tree roots grow very close to the surface and con be the cause of considerable damage to buildings, walls, paths, drainage pipes, cables and lawns.

TERRAM RootGuard and TERRAM RootGuard Plus are used to protect against damage caused by root development including the undermining of structures with shallow foundations and blockage to damaged pipes, or pipes with faulty joints.

Root growth can also cause desiccation of soils to the extent whereby soil shrinkage occurs meaning foundations are no longer supported, resulting in subsidence and cracking. In these circumstances expensive underpinning may be the only solution.

The choice of TERRAM ROOTGUARD product selected will depend upon the application and specifically whether water needs to pass through the product:

TERRAM RootGuard - the permeable solution

TERRAM RootGuard is a geotextile manufactured from polypropylene/polyethylene fibres, which provides excellent resistance to root development due to the high tensile strength, high puncture resistance and its capability of withstanding the differential forces that can develop in clay soils.

In the instances where it is deemed necessary to have a water-permeable solution as opposed to the highest level of protection e.g. surrounding land drains, TERRAM RootGuard is the perfect solution.

TERRAM RootGuard Plus - the impermeable solution

TERRAM ROOTGUARD Plus is a composite of TERRAM ROOTGUARD and an HDPE membrane and is the choice when the greatest degree of protection is required and there is no requirement for water to pass through the barrier. Research has demonstrated that high-density polyethylene (HDPE) can withstand penetration by even the most vigorous of tree roots.

Both products are chemically inert to natural soil conditions and resistant to biodegradation.
